Water and waves

 More beach paintings. Have stuck to my regular 8x10's for a while as these get more space in the gallery. Top one is a Pahoehoe Park view close to home, with a condo development in the background. Below is Pine Trees beach, north of town. Lots of rocks and waves.  

 

Kaloko Ponds Waves

 Outdoor painting continues. Top is an 8x10 of the rocks and waves at Kaloko Ponds, north Kona. There is a fish pond to the right of this scene. Below is a busy Kua Bay beach as some tourists are returning after they are pre-tested before departure.

Startup after another break

 We had a few weeks off outdoor painting due to the virus  closures at our beaches. Now back into the swing of things. Always takes a few sessions to get sharp again. 

We painted at Honl's beach so I went across the street and did the beach from across the street. This is an 8x10. Then I did a 6x8 at home of the view from the same side of the street but where there is no shade to paint in the morning. Last is an 8x10 at Honokohau Harbor beach with four palm trees.   

 

Panoramic and another

Still outside on Fridays painting with the art group, but distanced and masked during our critiques. Gallery will be closing for September due to increasing virus cases on our island. 

Top one is from Kukio Beach and a patron who had met me at the BSA gallery and owned another of my works, purchased this one "off the beach." It's now varnished and ready to deliver. This is usual outdoor 8x10.

Below that is a 9x24 panoramic canvas, last of four I stretched a while ago. It is a wide angle view of Hookena Beach. As someone mentioned, you got a lot in there. Beach, clouds, ocean, shore, people, boats..... Really shows the activity of our Hawaiian beaches.   

 

KeauhouBay

 A new Friday painting from Keauhou Bay. I do this location often so went to the south side and painted the north side of the bay, and the point of the bay with palm trees. There is a home there, wow, what a location. I have one more of these panoramic canvases stretched. This one is 9x25 inches. 

Working on greens

I've introduced a couple of greens into my palette to allow even greater variety as opposed to mixing all my greens from blue and yellow. Even with two yellows, and two blues, I found some greens missing. I now added permanent green light and permanent green (viridian). 

This painting is 8x10 from Pahoehoe Park along Ali'i Drive. I like the new greens in the foliage at the top right and palm like bush at the bottom. The water has a good variety of greens now too. The biggest room in the world is the room for improvement! Keep learning, keep painting. 

Kahaluu South

One of our favorite painting spots, Kahaluu Beach. This is an avid snorkling spot although without tourists it's very quiet. Tours would usually bring tourists here so made it very busy. Now our group of about 16 painters was the majority. I painted this view south from the side of the small church at the north end of the bay. Had done a small work from here earlier, a 4x16 and now did a 9x26 to keep the panoramic look. This is three times the square area of my usual 8x10 so took a solid three hours to get it looking good plus touchups at home. I like painting larger on site but takes the first two hours of blocking in to get it looking like anything and finally the third hour it starts to come together.
